A new version of GB/T 14272-2011 DOWN GARMENT was officially issued on Oct. 31, 2011, and replaced GB/T 14272-2002.  It came into force on Feb. 1, 2012.

The new version features the following changes from the previous version GB/T 14272-2002:

• Applicable scope: it was changed to all kinds of clothing mainly made of woven fabric and filled with down and feather as majority.
• Label: It was changed to comply with both GB 5296.4 and GB 18401. And it also explicitly requires down content and filler weight to be indicated on the label.
• Interior quality for filler: the tolerance of down content was changed to be no less than -3%, and micro-bacteria test can be exempted if oxygen number is 10mg/100g and above.
• Some revisions on appearance defects.
• Physical and chemical properties: Decomposable aromatic amines, colorfastness tests, down proof, safety test of mechanical hazard for infants’ and children’s garment were added. Seam strength at back rise of pants was cancelled.
• Performance requirements for down and feathers, testing methods for down and feathers, microstructure and features of goose/duck’s down and feathers have been added into the appendix of this new standard.
