REACH (the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) was finally adopted by the Council of the European Union on 18th Dec 2006, and came into law on 1st Jun 2007.

REACH has replaced 40 existing pieces of legislation in EU and become a uniform regulation on chemical registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction. It is a comprehensive system for registration and evaluation covering about 30,000 chemicals.

The main content of REACH is:
-  Registration of substances > 1 ton/year
-  Increase information and communication throughout supply chain by SDS
-  Evaluation of some registered substances
-  Authorization of substances of very high concern
-  Restrictions of unacceptable substances
-  Set up Chemical Agency (ECHA) to manage the system
