The Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce recently launched a special inspection of fashion apparel sold in shopping malls, supermarkets and boutiques. A total of 43 batches were detected as unqualified during this inspection, including some well-known brands.

The unqualified products included shirts, jeans, T-shirts, dresses, overcoats and several other types of apparel.

Among the 43 failed batches, the failure of color fastness (21 batches) accounts for 48.8% and seam slippage (11 batches) for 25.6%. Seam slippage is one of major issues among consumer complaints, which frequently occurs at side seam, arm hole and yoke seam. Other failed items were pH value (5 batches), fiber content (16 batches) and labels (3 batches).

All these unqualified batches were ordered by local authorities to be withdrawn from the shelves.
